Chris Bowsman All around great song. I love playing along with the chord progression. Favorite track: Never More Will Roam.
Jim Mathis

Jim Mathis A great mixture of vocals and instrumental tunes.
Everything is here, from up tempo songs like "Never More Will Roam" to the danceable (even for old folks) "Pine Tree Waltz".
If you like listening to music while exercising, I find that I can run almost any distance on the treadmill as long as I keep this album's rousing rendition of "Cumberland Gap" looping through my headphones. Favorite track: Cumberland Gap.

AYHahn Outstanding album! My first favorite was Red Skies but after further listening it's now Never More Will Roam...followed closely by Innisfree, Red Skies, Cumberland Gap and There But For Fortune. Great instrumentals, vocals with a bit of rasp and depth, tight arrangements...worth noting that I usually only like 1 or 2 tracks from an album. Favorite track: Never More Will Roam.

The players:
Joe K. Walsh – mandolin, vocals, mandola (tracks 5 and 11)
Courtney Hartman – guitar and vocals (tracks 1 and 8)
Karl Doty – bass
Brittany Haas – fiddle and vocals (tracks 2 and 10)
Gabe Hirshfeld – banjo (tracks 2 and 3)
Bruce Molsky – fiddle (tracks 4 and 9), guitar (tracks 6 and 7), banjo (track 11) and vocals (tracks 6 and 8)

01_Red Skies (Walsh/Moore, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI/ Luminous Bloom Music, ASCAP) – Written with my friend, the great Chris Moore. May we keep up the good work when the people we’ve learned it from are no longer around.

02_Never More Will Roam (Walsh, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI) – Inspired by S. A. Andree, a man who laid it all on the line for an improbable vision: floating to the North Pole in a balloon.

03_Cumberland Gap (trad) – with my apologies to the old time police.

04_Pine Tree Waltz (Walsh/Moore/Mailander, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI/ Luminous Bloom Music, ASCAP/Hoping Machine Music, BMI) – For my adopted home: Maine, the Pine Tree State.

05_The Berry's Walk Out (Walsh, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI) – A celebratory processional tune, dedicated to my little sister and her husband on their wedding day.

06_Innisfree (Walsh/Yeats, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI) –Yeats’ verse about getting away from it all, reimagined here as a song. How about Bruce’s singing and guitar playing on this one?!?

07_The Bee-Loud Glade (Walsh/Haas, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI/Yellow Baboon Music, ASCAP) – Inspired by a shape note song, Britt and I carved this one out a while back. Karl led the way with the beautiful reharmonizations that brought this to life.

08_There But For Fortune (Ochs) – Hopefully songs encouraging empathy will one day be unneeded. Until then…

09_Pogo Big (Walsh, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI) – My brother Micah lays out the options, this being one of them. The other option: Pogo Home. Here’s to him, pogoing his way through the NYC comedy scene.

10_The Stream (Walsh/Timrod, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI) – adapted from Henry Timrod’s beautiful, sad poem “the Stream is Flowing From the West”.

11_Closer (Walsh/Hartman, Skinny Elephant Music, BMI/Fearless Hum Publishing BMI) – Sometimes the right notes show up at just the right time. This tune fell into our hands the night before we started tracking this record, and Courtney sent it off in the direction it needed to go in. I always dig a peaceful send-off.

Thanks to Dan and Ariel for always making the making of a record a good time, and for making it sound so damn good. I wouldn’t be the musician I am without the luck of playing with and learning from Darol Anger, Grant Gordy, and Ethan Jodziewicz, the wild heart-bending explorers of the string band world who, with yours truly, make up the omnivorous band Mr Sun. This music owes a huge debt to them. Courtney, Brittany, Karl, Gabe: you are all so heavily inspiring and generous. Getting to make music with you guys from time to time is one way I know I’m a very lucky guy. Thanks for all you gave and brought to this record. Bruce is one of the busiest guys I know. That he carved out space in his life, mind, and schedule for this music will always be something I’m very grateful for. Thanks for making this record what it is, Bruce!

My parents are dedicated to making the world a better place, and they work towards that end every day. They set the standard to which I aspire. This record is dedicated to them.
